Financial Planning

Financial Planning

Financial planning is the ongoing assessment of your comprehensive picture of your individual finances, plotting your financial goals, and creating plans for achieving such goals. It includes the scrutiny of a number of financial details, including:

  • Cash Flow
  • Savings
  • Debt
  • Investments
  • Insurance
  • Retirement Plan

A successful financial plan looks a bit different for everyone, but here are some key components to consider:

  • Set financial goals–this can include inspirational things like, where do you want to see yourself in five years? kinds of goals
  • Track your money–this is important to get an accurate picture of the cashflow coming in and going out in order to better adjust future goals
  • Create a budget–split money up according to your saving, needs, and wants
  • Tackle high-interest debt–this includes things like credit-card debt, loans, or rent-to own payments

This 12-minute video can be a helpful tool when crafting your first financial plan.

Financial planning will also look different depending on if you’re full-time, part-time, or new faculty. Click the links below to learn more about your specific benefits and retirement needs according to your specific position:

Financial Stress

Financial Stress is “the subjective assessment of one’s financial condition, including one’s perceived ability to meet expenses, satisfaction with the financial condition and one’s level of savings and investment, and worry about debt.” Building a financial plan can be a great way to alleviate financial stress.
